Kyle Cooper Interview

Hey guys! I went to Motionographer (they have links for more After Effects tutorials, check it out!) this morning, and they posted a link for an interview with Kyle Cooper. Already at the beginning of the interview he talks about what the motion titles should be about.

Take the time to watch it, and I hope it's inspirational towards your projects and drive! :)

Sketches on Thelonious

Some sketches I'm thinking of for the CD project in Pop Culture class. I'm still trying to get used to the whole abstract thing idea....as well as trying to incorporate some other elements to it to make it interesting for this day and age. Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated. :)

I'd Do It All Again (Corinne)

First time I saw the music video for this track. But I'm familiar with Corinne Bailey Rae's music. I have always enjoyed her musical drive since I first heard her a few years ago.

What I enjoyed about this music video, the different shots used to capture her mood and the surroundings. I also liked the fact that it doesn't show Corinne looking at the camera (I'm never used to having the singer/rapper look at the camera as they speak lyrics unless it's live). It makes it more intimate, and makes me wonder what he/she is thinking in the situation he/she is in.

Very inspirational in camera shots and transitions for me, thought I'd share it with you guys. :)

MTV Changes Logo....

The new logo is on the right, in comparison with the one on the left. I guess because everything else wanted to go HD, it wanted to join the club as well...gettin' its' widescreen flava on. :P Not!

Anyways, here's the article that talks about the logo change. In my opinion, the change doesn't really make an impact to me. It'll take some getting use to as well...though I barely watch MTV anymore.

Tim Burton's Annie Award Speech

....well, that was something else...

But on a serious note, congrats to Tim Burton on his
Winsor McCay Award at the Annies! :)

A few more weeks, and Alice in Wonderland opens....can't wait!

Steven Spielberg on Animation and Storyboarding

Steven Spielberg is one of my favorite directors, because he has the skill to harness the inner child and its' imaginations as he directs. What I also admire him is that he respects animation as much as live action. He produced many animated shows/movies in the 90's (Tiny Toons, Animaniacs, Freakazoid, Land Before Time, We're Back! A Dinosaur's Story, and so on).

Anyway, here he is talking about the importance of being an animator and for storytelling. I hope it inspires you whether you're animating in Flash, After Effects, or even doing live action for your projects. Enjoy!

So Tres...Why So Serious?

I'm doing my best to get back into drawing, even with all the projects I have to do for class. Drawing has always been a passion of mine, and I don't want to forget to pay the respects of those who inspire me to draw. So while most of my projects won't incorporate drawing necessarily, I am still gonna draw to keep my chops up.

I did these sketches while I started work at 4am in the morning (yes, I work from 4am to 8am on Saturday mornings):

I was reading a couple of articles on the recent Oscar nominations, and how it was interesting that they would nominate Avatar...but they wouldn't nominate the Dark Knight as Best Picture. Seeing they both burst out in the billions. Anyway, as I continued to read, I saw a picture link for Heath (not Hancock) Ledger's the Joker...and I thought it would be awesome to do a spin on him. :) I think he turned out pretty good, while practicing positive and negative shapes.

This one is actually a sketch of Johnny Depp, believe it or not. I just thought the hairstyle was something interesting to try. I need to get out of my comfort zone of just creating a solid block for the hair...and start playing around with the hair lines inside the shape....make it more defined, and more play as well.

I hope you guys like these sketches! :) I had fun working on these, learning, pushin, and just going for my spin, not an exact copy of the photo.

If You Still Haven't Seen Avatar

...this image sums it up in a nutshell...with a splash of Ferngully next to it. :D

Image was created by Chad Regan (givin' credit where credit is due), and was found at Cartoon Brew, where I get my toon mocha on! :D

Barbershop - Kinetic Typography

My kinetic typography project in film/tv. Done in After Effects, and I had an awesome time working on this! :)
